CSA Home Delivery

1. Why is preference to sign up for the “Grow Your Own Veggies” offer given to families in Pittsfield’s southeast quad?

  • a. We are building a high-density network of neighbors in the southeast quad for the introduction of a CSA Home Delivery Service providing weekly distribution of farm fresh vegetables to families throughout the year. The efficiency of family homes in close proximity to each other is a necessary component of the service. Expansion into other areas of Pittsfield, the Berkshires and other communities will follow after acceptance of the program is established in the core community neighborhoods.

2. Why do we refer to the CSA Home Delivery System as the most efficient, eco-friendly, cost effective system for the distribution of fresh produce?

  • a. When fully operational the system picks up the weekly shares of produce from the farms and transports them by bio diesel fueled trucks directly into the neighborhoods of participating families where they are transferred to a fleet of people powered cargo tricycles for the final phase of the direct to home delivery. With all costs in, there is no more efficient way to do it, besides growing your own. Hybrids are used in inclement and winter weather.
