Last fall as the economy continued to cascade and concerns for the economy ahead began to escalate, it became very clear that the Berkshires would unlikely be able to dodge the bullet of a global economic meltdown.

There was little question that Pittsfield residents would feel the pain along with the rest of the world.

When GE’s stock recently fell below $7.00 (it appears to be moving back up, but slowly) and then GE reduced the dividend, which inflicted further hardship to the economic balance many of Pittsfield’s retiree’s living on a fixed income have struggled to maintain.

 Pittsfield folks, whether you were GE or not were raised with the philosophy to “buy and hold” GE stock, don’t sell, it is the benchmark of capitalism, a blue chip treasure to pass along to one’s heirs. That strategy is under siege, for many who have held on perhaps too long, the situation is appears dismal.

To address the impact the emerging financial crisis was inflicting on the community, we felt it was important to broaden the reach of our CSA Home Delivery program and related Farmer’s Market (we are about to announce).

Within the next week or so we will be announcing the details of our enhanced program that we have been busy advancing over the past few months.

We feel the programs we have developed will be more meaningful to a broad cross section of the Pittsfield community.
