process.
About CSA Home
Delivery
CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) Home Delivery System is a program that
Berkshire Harmony is cultivating and nurturing into reality. It is a membership
based, community centric, eco-friendly system for feeding more families locally
grown farm fresh vegetables and produce delivered directly from the farms into
local neighborhood households swiftly after harvest.
Locally grown fresh produce from Berkshire
farms and additional growers located within about a 100 mile radius of the
Berkshires will be featured in-season (late spring, summer and fall). Produce
from New England Four Season growers and a broader network of farms and
growers, including regional CEA (controlled environment agriculture –
greenhouse grown) produce will be the source of supply for out-of-season (late
fall, winter and early spring) fruits and vegetables.
The intention is to launch a full service
program into southeast Pittsfield. MA neighborhoods in October 2008 for weekly
home delivery of farm fresh produce shares for the upcoming season.
Participation in the year round service, season by season or annually, is
through membership in the CSA Home Delivery program. Details to follow, sign on
for the newsletter if interested in learning more or participating as a member
of the service.
About CSAHome Delivery Pilot Launch for Foote Farm’s “Garden Samplings”
The Summer 2008 marked the launch of the pilot CSA Home Delivery service in Pittsfield, Massachusetts featuring Foote Farm’s “Garden Samplings." The program launched with bicycle delivery to neighbor members was well received and served as a “working model” for the expanded Pittsfield CSA Home Delivery serviced to be announced formally in October 2008 - a preview announcement is currently posted on the Berkshire Harmony Blog.
The produce was supplied from Foote Farm’s 10,000 square foot eco-friendly, naturally grown backyard garden. The Pittsfield CSA Home Delivery 2009 program will feature locally grown in-season produce and farm products from Berkshire farmers, growers and producers supplemented by additional participating farms in the preferred growing region within a 100 mile radius. Winter-Spring programs will draw from the Berkshire and neighboring region’s Four Season Growers along with produce from beyond the perferred growing region to supply a response to member’s demand from sources as close to the Berkshires as feasible and possible.
